Weymouth, Dorset.—At 2 A.M. on the 16th August, 1939, a message was received from the Wyke Regis coastguard that a small yacht was showing red flares a quarter of a mile east of Portland Bill. The weather was fine and the sea calm. The motor life-boat William and Clara Ryland was launched at 2.25 A.M. She found the motor yacht Jane, of Poole, with a crew of two, her engine broken down.
