Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, and Walton and Frinton. Essex.—17th July, 1939. A message had been received from the coastguard that an aeroplane had crashed into the sea between Walton Pier and Gunfleet Lighthouse and that a man had come down from it by parachute. Royal Air Force speedboats and aeroplanes also took part in the search, and the pilot was picked up alive by one of the aeroplanes.
