Mr. H. C. Whitehead, Appledore

Mr. H. C. Whitehead. of Appledore, who died on October 2()th, had been for thirty years one of the most devoted and successful station honorary secre- taries. He became honorary secretary of the Appledore station in 1901, and held that post until 1931, when ill health compelled him to retire. Even then he did not cease to take an active interest in the work of the station.

He became its honorary treasurer in 1931, and its president as well in 1934, and he was still its president at the time of his death. In 1911 he was awarded the Institution's binocular glass, and in 1929 he was appointed an honorary life-governor, the highest distinction which it can confer on its honorary workers.
