Lowestoft, Suffolk.—At 4.10 A.M. on the 15th September, 1938, the coastguard reported a vessel aground on Newcome Sands. The motor life-boat Agnes Cross was launched at 4.40 A.M.

A strong N.E. breeze was blowing, and the sea was heavy on the sands. The life-boat found the trawler Excellent, of Boulogne, aground on the west ridge of the sands, rolling heavily and bumping.

She anchored and veered down, but the master said that he did not want to leave his ship and would wait until daylight. The life-boat stood by, and at 8.30 A.M. a tug arrived and made fast to the trawler. She towed her off at 10 A.M. The life-boat remained with the vessels until they were clear of the sands, and returned to her station at 10.45 A.M.—Rewards., £19 19s. 6d..
