Clarissa
Appledore, Devon.—On the afternoon of the 19th November a resident at Westward Ho telephoned that the motor trawler Clarissa, of Bideford, was burning red flares a short distance out from Westward Ho. The wind was only light, and the sea was smooth, but the motor life-boat V.C.S. was launched at 4.25 p.M. to investigate.
She found the Clarissa near Pulley buoy, in a sinking condition, due to a bad leak. Her crew of three were exhausted from pumping. Some of the life-boat crew manned the pumps, and the life-boat towed the Clarissa to Bideford quay. She returned to her station at 10.35 P.M. The master and owner sent a letter of thanks.— Rewards, £25 Os. 7d..
