Victa, of London

Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.—On the 18th July the coastguard reported that a sailing barge about three miles S.W. by S. of Clacton pier had her topsail and foresail split. She was the Victa, of London, with a crew of two and a cargo of sand. A moderate S.W. gale was blowing, with a rough sea. The motor life-boat Edward Z. Dresden was launched at 3 A.M., and put three of her crew on board the barge. It was impossible to raise the barge's anchor, and it had to be slipped. She was then taken to Harwich. The life-boat returned to her station at 1 A.M., but could not be rehoused for some hours, owing to the gale.—Rewards, £4 7s. 4d., and Property Salvage Case..
