Ensign

On the 15th April the South Shields coast- guard reported that a steamer was ashore at the end of the South pier. A moderate S.E. breeze was blowing, with a moderate sea, and the weather was thick. The motor life-boat Henry Frederick Swan put out at 7.45 P.M., and found the steamer to be the Ensign, of Gibraltar, bound to Gibraltar with a cargo of coal. She stood by until at midnight the Ensign was refloated by tugs, and put into South Shields for examination. The life-boat returned to her station at 12.30 A.M.—Rewards, £11 16s..
