The Steamers Melissa and The Balmerino

On the afternoon of the 19th December the coxswain was warned that a vessel was ashore at Blackburn Rock, south of Ayr. A moderate S.E. breeze was blowing, with a moderate sea, and the weather was thick. The motor life-boat Sir David Richmond of Glasgow put out at 6 P.M.

She found two steamers aground. One of them, the Melissa, of Belfast, refloated just as she arrived. She stood by the other, the Balmerino, of Belfast, which was bound, light, from Belfast to Ayr, until she too refloated, and re- turned to her moorings at 10 P.M.— Rewards, £13 11s, 6d..
