Alert

The motor life- boat Lady Jane and Martha Ryland put off at 6.30 P.M. on the 3rd November in response to a telephone message that the local flit boat Alert, with two men on board, was ashore in the bight of Grimista and was burning flares. A strong S.S.E. breeze was blowing, with a moderate sea and snow showers. The night was very dark and the life-boat's searchlight was of great help. The life-boat found the Alert aground about fifty yards off a lee shore. She went alongside, towed the vessel off stern first, and took her back to Lerwick.

The life-boat arrived back at her station at 7.20 P.M.—Rewards, £6..
