Summary of the Meetings of the Committee of Management

Thursday, 23rd August, 1934.

Paid £18,054 10s. 5d. for the total charges of the Institution during the month, includ- ing rewards for services, payments for the construction of life-boats, life-boathouses and slipways, and the maintenance of the life-boat stations.

Included in the above was :— £19 4s. 6d. on account of pensions already granted to the dependent relatives of men who had lost their lives in the life-boat service at Rye Harbour.

Resolved that the request of the Rou- manian Life-boat Society that an officer of the Institution be sent to Bucharest to advise the Society on the technical problems con- nected with the establishment of their life- boat stations be complied with, and that Lieut.-Commr. P. E. Vaux, D.S.C., R.N., eastern district inspector, be selected for the duty.

Included in the above were :— £376 Os. 6d. to pay the rewards for life- boat services ; £303 19s. 6d to pay the rewards for life- boat launches ; (Accounts of these services and launches appear on pages 359-369) ; £10 12s. for the assemblies of crews, etc. ; £424 2s. lid. on account of pensions already granted to the dependent relatives of men who had lost their lives in the life-boat service at Aldeburgh, Caister, Eastbourne, Fethard, Filey, Fraserburgh, Holyhead, Johnshaven, The Mumbles, New Brighton, Newhaven, Padstow, Port St. Mary, Ramsgate, Rhoscolyn, Runs wick, Rye Harbour, St. Andrews, St. Davids, Troon, Wells and Whitby ; £73 15s. to men for injury in the life-boat service at Blackpool, Broughty Ferry, Caister, Cardigan, Moelfre, Newhaven and Walmer.

Voted a compassionate grant of £5 to the widow of the late Coxswain Richard Owen, of Moelfre, who is old and in very poor circumstances.

Voted £13 3s. to pay the rewards for shoreboat services at Cresswell, Douglas, Filey, Port Erin, Port St. Mary, Rosslare Harbour, and Sunderland, accounts of which appear on pages 374-376.

Reported that H.R.H. The Prince of Wales, K.G., President of the Institution, would attend a gala performance of the Citroen film at the Plaza Theatre on the 13th November, in aid of the Institution.

Resolved that the cordial and most re- spectful thanks of the committee of manage- ment be tendered to H.R.H. The Princess Royal for her kindness in attending the inaugural ceremony of the new motor life- boat at Runswick on the 20th September, 1934.

Reported the receipt of the following special contribution : Anonymous gift to provide the new Broughty Ferry motor life-boat, £7,000.

Paid £21,498 19s. 3d. for the total charges of the Institution during the month, including rewards for services, payments for the con- struction of life-boats, life-boathouses and slipways, and the maintenance of life-boat stations.

Included in the above were :— £87 16s. to pay the rewards for life-boat services ; £132 15s. 6d to pay the rewards for life- boat launches ; (Accounts of these services and launches appear on pages 369-374); 19s. 6d. for the assembly of a crew ; £25 12s. 8d. on account of pensions already granted to the dependent relatives of men who had lost their lives in the life-boat service at Rye Harbour ; £14 10s. to men for injury in the life-boat service at Caister and Lerwick.

Voted a compassionate grant of £20 for the benefit of the widow of the late Coxswain Michael Hamilton, of Blackrock, who is in straitened circumstances.

Voted £9 15s. to pay the rewards for shoreboat services at Bunbeg, Hayling Island, Howth, Skerries, Staxigoe and Teignmouth, accounts of which appear on pages 374-376..
