on the 26th April a man told members of the life-boat crew that a small boat was drifting out to sea and the only occupant was waving for help. A moderate S.W. gale was blowing and the sea was rough. The motor life- boat Lord Southborough (Civil Service No. 1) was launched. She came up with the boat, the Imp, of Westgate, more than two miles off shore. Her occupant, a young man, was in an exhausted condition. He was taken into the life-boat, and his boat was towed back to Westgate Bay.
