Audrey
On the 31st July the barge Audrey, of London, with a crew of two, had her sails carried away in the Whitaker channel, while bound from London to Rochford with a cargo of wheat. A moderate to strong S.W. gale was blowing, with a rough sea. The coastguard passed news to Clacton and the motor life- boat Edward Z. Dresden was launched at 8.15 A.M. Some of the life-boat crew went aboard the barge, a tem- porary sail was rigged up, and the barge made for Harwich, accompanied by the life-boat. The life-boat arrived home at 7 P.M., having been out on service for nearly eleven hours. Her help undoubtedly saved the barge and her crew from destruction.—Property Salvage Case..
