The S.S. Yewmount

On 6th December the s.s. Yewmount, of Glasgow, struck some submerged ob- struction off the Longstone Light House, while bound from Methil to Treport, with coal. The master made for the coast and ran her ashore in Alnmouth Bay. Information that she was ashore was received by the Life-boat authorities, and the Pulling and Sailing Life-boat John and Robert C. Mercer was launched at 9 A.M. A moderate N.W. breeze was blowing, with a moderate sea. The Life- boat stood by for a time and then re- turned to harbour. Later on the master of the Yewmount decided to send seven of his crew of twelve ashore, and they were taken off and landed by the Life-boat.

A watch was kept on the steamer during the night. The weather moderated, and by daybreak the steamer was well up on the beach and was almost dry by low water.—Rewards, £27 3s. 6d..
