At 10.15 A.M. on 20th October information was received from Whitby through the Coastguard that the fishing boat For- tunatus, of Whitby, had been warned not to attempt to enter Whitby Harbour on account of the N.E. gale blowing, and was running for Scarborough. The Motor Life-boat Herbert Joy II. was promptly launched, and about four and a half miles out she met the fishing boat and escorted her safely into the harbour.
