ON 25th October last, the Motor Lifeboat at Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex, went to the help of a small boat which, while on the way from Walton to Clacton, had been carried out to sea.

The sea was rough, with heavy squalls blowing. The Life-boat found the boat with two men on board. She was quite unmanageable, being already half full of water and in danger of sinking. The Life-boat took the two: men on board and brought them into Clacton. The Institution received a letter from one of the two men expressing his gratitude for the rescue of himself and his son.

He wrote : '"I am an ex-naval chief petty officer with seven children, and in all probability I should have lost my son and myself but for the timely help of the Walton Life-boat. After my twenty-three years at sea in the Royal Navy I now feel quite a greenhorn, and I can now more realize this wonderful organization and its value to all poor and distressed brothers on land or sea.
