Twelve Hours In a Whole Gale
ON August 22nd the Clacton Motor Life-boat was out for over twelve hours in a whole gale with a very heavy sea, and went to the help of two vessels.
The first was a small yacht with two people on board, which had become unmanageable four miles away. Two members of the Life-boat Crew were put on board her and brought her safely into Harwich. Then on the way back, the Life-boat found a ship's boat, with one man on board, helplessly drifting, with her sails in ribbons. The man and the boat were both saved. The Lifeboat, which had been launched at 11.30 in the morning, did not get back to her moorings until midnight. The Coxswain and Crew were given extra awards..
