Voted £3 to eight men for putting off in a boat and rescuing seven men from a fishing yawl, which was capsized near Inver, Co.

Donegal, on the 21st May. When the boat capsized all the men were thrown into the i water, and the salvors incurred some risk in effecting their rescue. Also granted 5s. to a woman who ran some distance into the village to give the alarm.

Granted £1 to two men for saving twelve men off Boulmer, on the 22nd June. The rescued men belonged to a Swedish vessel which had been torpedoed many hours pre- viously. When picked up by the salvors they were in a very exhausted condition.

Voted £6 to twelve men for saving sixteen men from the s.s. Auriac, of Leith, which was lost off St. Abbs on the 23rd April. Also sent a special letter of thanks to Dr. CALDER for his services on this occasion.

Awarded the Thanks of the Institution on vellum to JOHN HAYLETT, Coxswain of the Caister No. 2 Life-boat, for a very fine service on the 8th July, which resulted in the saving of the s.s. City of Oxford and her crew of 130 hands in a heavy easterly gale.

Ordered a special Letter of Thanks to be sent to Mrs. MAXWELL, Honorary Secretary of the Aranmore Branch, who, accompanied by her daughter, put off in a boat, manned by five j fishermen, for the purpose of assisting the I s.s. Comita, of Glasgow, on the 13th August.

Mrs. MAXWELL landed three ladies and an injured man from the vessel.

Also sent a Letter of Thanks to Dr. RITCHIE, of Manchester, a visitor to Aranmore, who gave medical attention to the injured man when landed.

Granted an additional reward to the crew and helpers of the Newbiggin Life-boat for a good service on the 3rd August to the s.s. Horn- church, of London.

Also an additional reward to the crew of the North Deal Life-boat for a good service on the 28th August, which resulted in the saving of the crew of the ketch Alma, of Gravelines, five in number.

Voted £2 10s. to five men for putting off in a coble and saving eight of the crew of the ss. Ardans, in the vicinity of Filey Brigg, in a strong westerly wind on the 18th August.

Voted £4 to four men for putting off in a motor-boat and, at some risk, saving one of the crew of a vessel in Waterford Harbour on the 12th July.

Voted £1 to four men for putting off in a boat and saving a man and a boy from a small boat which was drifting off Aberystwyth on the 12th August. The occupants of the boat when picked up were in a very exhausted condition, having been adrift for three days.

A reward bad already been received by the salvors locally.

Voted £1 10s. to the coxswain of the Life- boat and two other men at Kessingland for putting off in a boat and saving five soldiers who were being blown out to sea on the 25th August. The weather was squally, with a strong W.S.W. breeze, and, in the vicinity of the Barnard sands, towards which the boat was being rapidly driven, the sea was heavy.

Also granted 5s. to two men who helped to launch the boat, and paid for the cost of petrol consumed, amounting to 2s.

Voted £35 to men injured in the Life-boat service at Aranmore and Tynemouth.

Voted £4 10s. to nine men belonging to luistrahull for putting off in a strong N.W. wind and landing the crew of the s.s. Athenia on the 16th August.

Voted £2 10s. to five men for putting off in a boat from Tremore Bay, Co. Donegal, on the 25th August, and saving the crew of eighteen men of the s.s. Verdi, of Liverpool. There was a heavy ground swell at the time, and the rescued men were in a very exhausted condition, their vessel having been torpedoed three days previously.

Voted £3 10s. to seven men for putting off on the 30th August to the assistance of an aero- plane, which had fallen into the sea. The occupant of the aeroplane was alive when picked up, and although he received first aid, e succumbed before he could be landed.

Also sent Special Letters of Thanks to two gentlemen for their endeavours to resuscitate the unfortunate man.

Ordered a Letter of Thanks to be sent to the Rev. J. H. TRAVERS, Vicar of St. James' Church, Coventry, and to Mr. JONES, a Master Mariner, for assisting to save two persons who were endangered, owing to bad weather, when fishing off Porthdinllaen, on the 8th September.

Also granted 5s. to another man who assisted in the rescue.

Voted £1 17s. 6d. to five men for saving a man from a small boat which was being driven out to sea in a westerly wind and rough sea, off Ballycotton, on the 13th September. Also granted 3s. 6d. to another man who assisted, and allowed 2s, to the owner of the boat used by the salvors, for repairs to his sail which was damaged.

Voted £2 and a Vellum Thanks to ROBERT COOK, one of the Life-boat crew, for saving the lives of some of the occupants of a small boat which capsized off Weymouth, on the 13th September. Cook was out in his boat with a visitor, and observed the other boat capsize.

He proceeded at once to the spot, and found three people in the water, two men and a woman. He hauled the woman on board.

Another boat coming to the rescue picked up the two men. Learning that another man was missing, Cook took his boat near the mast of the sunken boat, and was amazed to see the body of a man in a standing position under the water. A strong W. breeze was blowing, and at considerable risk of his boat being capsized, as his sails were standing, Cook raised the sunken boat by the sail sufficiently to release the man. He then hauled him on board, with the help of his passenger, and was able to restore him to consciousness.

Voted £2 10s. to five men for putting out in a boat and saving three persons who were drifting to sea off Bray, Co. Wicklow, on the 13th September. It was blowing a strong gale and, with a strong ebb tide, the occupants of the boat could make no headway towards the shore.

Granted £28 16s. to men {or injury in the Life-boat service at Lowestoft, Blackpool, and St. Ives.

Voted £4 5s. to five men for their services in putting off in boats and saving a man from a rowing-boat, which had been driven out to sea in the neighbourhood of Abersoch, on the 1st September. Also granted £2 17s. 6d. to defray the cost of repairing damage done to the rescuers' boats.

Voted £2 5s. to three men for putting off in a boat and saving one of the crew of the schooner Surprise, which was wrecked off Appledore, on the 4th October. The man attempted to swim ashore, and had it not been for the timely help of the men in the boat, he would, in all probability, have been drowned.

Voted £3 to six men for putting off in a boat from Aberdaron to the assistance of a boat belonging to the s.s. Memphian, of Liver- pool. They found seven men in the boat in an exhausted condition, whom they brought into safety. A moderate gale was blowing at the time with a heavy sea.

Voted £12 to six of the Life-boatmen at Deal for putting off in a small boat, and, at some risk, saving six men from two lighters, which were driven ashore in a strong S.W. by S. gale and a heavy sea. Considerable diffi- culty was incurred in rescuing the men, and the service was a meritorious one. Also awarded £5 to ten other members of the Life- boat crew for their action on this occasion.

In this case the vessels' anchors dragged, and when nearing the shore, the anchors fouled the Life-boat's haul-off warp, which made it impossible for the Life-boat to be launched.

Voted £626 17s. 5d. to pay the expenses of the following Life-boat launches, assemblies of crews, etc., with the view of assisting persons on vessels in distress:—Aberystwith, Aide- burgh No. 1, Boulmer, Broughty Ferry, Bude, Cadgwith, Flamborough No. 2, Gorleston No. 1, Grimsby, Groomsport, Harwich (steam), Hornsea, Hythe, The Lizard, Mumbles, Pal- ling Nos. 1 and 2, Port Logan, Rye Harbour, St. David's, Salcombe, Skateraw, Sennen Cove, Wells, Weston-super-Mare, Wicklow.

Reported that the President of the United States of America had awarded Gold Medals to JAMES PAY and WILLIAM G. SUTTON, Cox- swain and Second Coxswain respectively of the Kingsdowne Life-boat, in recognition of the rescue of the crew of the s.s. Sibiria on the 20th November, 1916.
