Cornish Lass

The ketch Cornish Lass, of Plymouth, whilst bound from Saundersfoot to Caldy Island in ballast, stranded on the North Sands on the llth November*. A strong E.S.E. gale prevailed at the time with a heavy sea, and the Life-boat William and Mary Devey was promptly dis- patched to her assistance. The vessel was rapidly driving ashore when the Life-boat reached her, and the boat was veered down alongside, and the three men on board were rescued. Owing to the heavy sea running some difficulty was experienced in saving the captain, who was an old man. The rescued men were safely landed in the harbour, and the Life-boat was left afloat until the weather moderated, as there was too much wind and sea to attempt to get her back on to the slipway..
