The motor Life-boat, James Stevens No. 14, was launched at 2.18 P.M. on the 6th Decem- ber to the assistance of a ketch which was reported in distress off Walton-on- the-Naze. When she arrived alongside she found the vessel was the Dutch schooner Confianci; of Delfzyl, bound for Holland with a cargo of salt cake.

The vessel was in a disabled condition, having broken her rudder, but the Life- boatmen were able to save her and her crew of seven hands..
