On the 18th March, during a strong N.E. gale and a very heavy sea, the new Motor Life-boat John Taylor Cardwell was launched to the assistance of the schooner Christiana Davies, of Barrow. The vessel, whilst bound to Dublin with a cargo of malt, came to anchor in Arklow Bay about five miles from the harbour. In the strong gale she commenced to drag her anchors, and displayed signals of distress. When the Life-boat reached the vessel the crew of three hands were rescued and were conveyed in safety ashore.
