A Steamer

At 2.30 A.M. on the 5th March the Barry Coastguard reported that a steamer was ashore about three miles west of Barry Island, and in need of assistance. The Life-boat John Wesley was launched and in tow of a pilot-vessel proceeded to the steamer in distress. When she arrived she found a patrol steamer was alongside taking off some of the men; the women and children having been taken off by another steamer before the arrival of the Life-boat. The Life-boat then stood by the steamer until she was success- fully refloated, and returned ashore..
