The S.S. Tresfond
At about 8 P.M. on the 9th December the s.s.
Tresfond, of Stavanger, bound from Christiania to South Shields, ran ashore about half a mile north of the boathouse, duringfoggyweather. Shortly afterwards a stiff N.E. wind got up and, with a flood tide, the sea became rough. The Life-boat John Anthony was launched and proceeded to the vessel, but it was not found necessary to take the crew off. At the request of the Captain the Life-boat stood by the vessel, as it was hoped that she might be refloated next day, but in this they were unsuccessful..
