The S.S. Meadowfield

During a moder- ately thick fog in the early morning of the 10th December the s.s. Meadowfield, of Glasgow, stranded on the rocks about a quarter of a mile to the east of Red- car Pier. It was very dark at the time, all the lights on the coast being extinguished on account of the war.

The Life-boat Fifi and Charles was launched to the assistance of the vessel, and at the request of the Master stood by until she floated on the flood tide.

The vessel, which was laden with timber, was found to be leaking rather badly, and was piloted to Hartlepool, the Life-boat accompanying her..
