At daybreak on the 2nd October the watchman observed a steamer ashore on the Scroby Sand, and at once reported the matter. The crew of the No. 1 Life-boat Mark Lane were promptly assembled and the boat, in tow of a tug, proceeded to the steamer, which proved to be the Gertrud, of Gothenburg, bound for London with a cargo of wood. The master of the vessel at once employed the Life-boat- men to get his vessel off, and they succeeded in doing this on the second tide, being assisted by tugs.
