Abeja

At 1 A.M. on the 4th November it was reported that a schooner was in distress near Gribbin Head and wanted assistance. The Life-boat James William and Caroline Courtney was launched and proceeded to the position indicated, where she found the schooner Abeja, of Exeter, which was bound from Fowey to Liver- pool with clay. She was on the rocks, having driven ashore on the ebb tide.

When the Life - boat reached her a tug was in the act of getting a rope aboard, and she remained alongside until the captain stated that he did not require any assistance. The tug eventually got the vessel off and towed her into safety..
