Fishing Cobles (4)
— Early on the morning of the 16th March a N.E.
wind increased to a moderate gale, and at about 9 A.M. a telephone message was received from the Docks stating that three fishing cobles were in difficulties off Souter Point, about three miles north of Sunderland. The crew of the Motor Life-boat J. McConnel Hussey were assembled, and the boat proceeded to the assistance of the cobles, encountering a very heavy sea on the bar. The boat then remained in attendance on the cobles until they came safely into harbour. Two of the boats belonged to Cullercoats and the third to Whitburn. Owing to the suddenness of the gale the cobles lost all their fishing gear..
