Fishing Boats
On the 24th December a strong northerly gale sprang up whilst the Redcar fishermen were at sea. All the boats managed to reach the shore with the exception of two, one of which, with some difficulty, got ashore at Marsk. The other boat drifted past Redcar, and as it was quite Fiji and Charles was launched and pro- ceeded after her for about a mile.
Here the boat had slight shelter from the West Scar rocks and the boat's crew managed to anchor her, and the Life-boat getting alongside saved her occupants, three in number. The weather was very cold at the time, and the prompt manner in which the Life- boatmen performed the rescue was very creditable.
unsafe for the men to land, the Life-boat.
