During a strong S.E. gale with a very heavy sea on the 21st March, the Life- boat Ada Lewis was launched to the assistance of twelve fishing cobles of New biggin, which had been overtaken while at sea by the gale. Two of the cobles were almost swamped when rounding Newbiggin Point, and it was necessary for the Life-boat to stand by the boats until all had reached safety.
