Breadwinner

On the llth December, during a moderate south- west gale with a heavy sea, the coast- guard reported that a vessel was burning flares opposite the Life-boat station.

The Life-boat John Burch was launched, and, on arrival, found the fishing lugger Breadwinner, of Yarmouth, was dragging her anchor and was driving across a schooner. Her other anchor and cable had been carried away. The Life-boat- men were employed by the master to salve the vessel and, with the assistance of a tug, they managed to tow her clear.

The lugger and the Life-boat were then towed into harbour, and later in the day the boat was taken back to the station on her carriage and re-housed..
