Marys

During a moderate S.S.W. gale on the 5th January, a report was received that the fishing-boat Marys, belonging to Ballantrae, which was expected back at Port Patrick by mid-day, had not returned. The weather at the time was threatening and the wind and tide were against the boat. Enquiry was made at Killintringan Light - house as to whether they could give any informa- tion about the missing boat, and in reply they stated that the boat was about a mile to the N.W. of the Light- house, and that the men appeared to be in an exhausted condition. The Life- boat Civil Service No. 3 was promptly despatched to their assistance, and on reaching the boat took the men on board and the boat in tow. The rescue was a timely one, as the men were very exhausted. When returning to port the Marys was swamped ; it was there- fore necessary to cut her adrift, and she was lost with all her gear and fish..
