The Life-boat John Burch was launched at 5.30 A.M. on the 22nd September, in a choppy sea and fresh S.E. wind, to the assist- ance of the barge Lily, of Rye, which stranded to the south of the Britannia Pier whilst bound to Grimsby. On arriving alongside the vessel the Life- boatmen were employed by the captain to get the vessel off, and with assistance of a tug and by laying out anchors the vessel and her crew of six hands were saved..
