On the morn- ing of the 12th July the schooner Alert, of Falmouth, whilst working down Channel, bound for Truro with coal, was seen to miss stays, and before the crew could wear ship she struck on Taylor's Bank. The Life-boat John and Henrietta was launched to her assist- ance and stood by her until about 3 P.M., when she floated off and came to anchor.

The captain then stated that he was in no danger, and thanked the Life-boatmen for their services ; she then returned to her station, arriving at 3.45 P.M. During this service there was a fresh N.N.W.
