John Lockett

Whilst the Life-boats Givil Service No. 4 and Charles and Susanna-Stephens were returning to their stations on the 20th April, after rendering assistance to the steamer Asia, further signals were made by the Light-vessels, and a barque was observed in a very dangerous position near the edge of the sands. Both boats with all haste proceeded to her, and the captain at once engaged them to save his vessel if possible.

The vessel was the barque John Lockett, of Liverpool, bound from Mexico to Bremen with a cargo of wood. With the assistance of the Life-boatmen and tugs the vessel was saved after a narrow escape from being totally wrecked..
