The No. 1 Life-boat Bolion was launched at 12.30 A.M. on the llth April in response to distress signals from a vessel on the West Barnard Sands. On reaching the sands the tug Java, of London, was found stranded and the Life:boatmen were at once engaged to salve her if possible. Anchors were laid out and after a great deal of hard work and risk, as during this time the N.N.E. wind and sea had increased considerably, the vessel was floated on the flowing tide. The services of the Life-boat being no longer required she returned to her station at 6.30 A.M..
