Consolation

At 4.25 P.M.

on the 27th August, the Coxswain of the Life-boat was1 informed by the Coastguard that a vessel was ashore on the South Beach. With all haste the No. 2 Life-boat Leicester was launched, and proceeded to the vessel, which proved to be the dandy Consolation, of Lowestoft, bound to the fishing ground.

As the tide was still ebbing the Life- boat stood by her until it was possible to pass a tow-rope to her from a tug in readiness to tow her off when the tide had made sufficiently to enable them to do so. As the Life-boat was then no longer required she returned to her station..
