On the 1st October, during hazy weather, the barquentine Juno, of Riga, stranded on the South Goodwin Sands, whilst bound from Portsmouth to Sunderland. Informa- tion reached the Coxswain of the Life- boat about 9 A.M., and with all speed the Civil Service No. 4 Life-boat was launched to her assistance. On arriving along- side the Captain declined to leave his vessel, but requested the Coxswain to stand by in case they were unable to loat her. In this, however, they were successful, and the Coxswain finding that no further assistance was required returned to his station..
