William Berry

At 8.45 A.M. on the 15th March, when the wind was blowing a whole gale from S.W., with a very heavy sea running, the schooner William Berry broke from her moorings and commenced to drift to the shore on the opposite side of the bay, which is extremely rocky and dangerous. Within fifteen minutes she was fast on the rocks considerably holed and liable to go to pieces at any moment.

In the meantime the casualty had been observed from the shore, and the Life- boat James Stevens No. 1 was sent to the rescue of the four men 011 board.

In a short space of time she was skil- fully taken to the wreck and the crew having been rescued she returned ashore..
