Reported the receipt of a contribution of £16,405 17s. 3d. from the Central Committee of the Life-boat Saturday Fund, as the nett proceeds of Life-boat Saturday, 1904.

Resolved that the best and very cordial thanks of the Committee of Management be conveyed to the Central Committee of the Life-boat Saturday Fund for their continued, zealous and much valued services.

Reported the receipt of £1,572 7s. from the Civil Service Life-boat Fund, per Mr. Charles Dibdin, the Honorary Secretary, to recoup the Institution all the expenses incurred in 1904 in maintaining the seven Stations at which the seven Life-boats presented and endowed by the Fund are placed. The total sum thus contributed to the Institution by gentlemen in His Majesty's Civil Service since 1866 has been £32,189 12s. id.

Resolved that the sincere thanks of the Committee of Management be tendered to the Honorary Secretary, to his Committee, and to the subscribers to the fund for their con- tinued invaluable support.

The Committee expressed much regret at the decease of Mr. DAVID GARB and Mr. G.

H. HOLT who had for a long period served as Honorary Secretaries respectively of the Stonehaven and Blackburn Branches of the Institution, and it was decided to send letters of condolence to the bereaved families.

Voted the best thanks of the Committee to Captain THOMAS ATKIN in recognition of his long and good services as Honorary Secretary of the Bridlington Branch of the Institution, which office he had just resigned on account of ill health.

The Committee appointed Mr. J. R. BARRETT, of the firm of Messrs. G. L. Watson and Co., of Glasgow, Consulting Naval Architect to the Institution, in succession to the late Mr. GEOGGE LENNOX WATSON.

Voted the Silver Medal of the Institution to Mr. SIDNEY HARRIS, Coxswain of the Gorleston steam Life-boat in recognition of ! his gallantry on the 15th and 16th January, when the steam Life-boat saved the crew of six hands of the brig Celerity, of Lowestoft, in exceptionally severe weather. An additional pecuniary reward was also made to each member of the crew.

Also voted the Silver Medal of the Institution to Mr. STEVEN CLAYSON, Assistant Coxswain of the Margate No. 1 Life-boat, for a gallant service in a whole gale on the 15th January, which resulted in the saving of four lives from the ketch Malvoisin, of London. The crew were each granted an additional reward.

Also the thanks of the Institution, inscribed upon vellum and framed together with the sum of 30s. each to three Coast Guards who were instrumental in saving 86 persons from five fishing boats in a whole S.E. gale off Ullapool on the 16th January.

Also 41. to four men for rescuing 14 persons from a boat, to which they had taken after their steamers had been in collision and sunk, off Holyhead, on 7th January.

The Committee of Management having received a communication from Mr. W. R.

I SMITH, the Assistant Secretary of the Insti- tution, stating, that after 45 years' service he I was regretfully compelled to tender his resignation owing to serious ill-health, they resolved to tender Mr. Smith their deep sympathy and to express their great regret at his compulsory retirement as from the 31st March 1905. They further decided to recognise the valuable and long service of Mr.

Smith by according him a pension.

It was further resolved to appoint Mr.

WILLIAM SPICER, who had been in the service of the Institution for 23 years, to the vacant post.

The Annual General Meeting of the Governors and friends of the ROYAL NATIONAL LIFE-BOAT INSTITUTION was held this day at the Royal United Service Institution, Whitehall. The Most Honourable the MARQUIS OP SALISBURY, P.O., C.B., President of the Board of Trade, in the Chair.

The Chairman having made some suitable observations on the great and national character of the operations of the Institution, the Annual Report (which will be found in the May number of The Life-boat Journal) was presented to the meeting.

The meeting was also addressed by the Right Hon. Lord BALFOUR OF BURLEIGH, K.T., P.O.; the Right Hon. the Earl of ALBEMARLE, C.B., M.V.O.; the Hon. JOHN W. E. S. SCOTT-MONTAGU, M.P.; the Right Hon. the Earl of HARDWICKE ; Sir WALTER R. PLUMMER, M.P.; Sir EDWARD BIRKBECK, Bart., Chairman of the Institution; and Sir THOMAS FOWELL BUXTON, Bart., G.C.M.G.

The officers for the current year were chosen, and various resolutions were moved, seconded and carried unanimously, pledging the meeting to renewed exertions on behalf of the benevolent and national objects of the Institution, and expressing the fullest confidence in the management.

10 The Pakefield Life-boat rendered assistance to the fishing boat Clupeidda, of Lowestoft, and Ramsgate boat saved three lives from the ketch Wesley of Jersey.

Also £920 4s. lid. to pay the expenses of launches of Life-boats, assemblies of crew, etc., with the view of rendering assistance to vessels in distress at the following stations:— Berwick-on-Tweed, Blackrock, Brighton, Brixham, Broadstairs, Buckhaven, Burryport, Caister No. 1, Dunbar, Dungeness, Ferryside, Giles Quay. Gorleston Nos. l and 3 (Steam),Hayling Island, Helvick Head, Hoylake, Holyhead (Steam) Kessingland No. 1, Kingsdowne, Littlehaven, Lowestoft No. 1, New Brighton (Steam), North Berwick, North Deal, Pakefield, Palling Nos. 1 and 2, Penzance, Plymouth, Ramsey, Rosslare Harbour, Selsey, Sennen Cove, Walmer, Wells, Winchelsea, Winterton No. 2 and Worthing.

The Ramsgate Life-boat was also taken out, but her services were not ultimately called into requisition.

Voted £100 towards the fund being raised for the benefit of the families of five men who lost their lives on the 26th February at Holyhead, when endeavouring to save life from vessels in distress.

Also £5 19s. to men injured on service at Hornsea and Mullion.

The Committee specially recognised the very valuable assistance given by Mr. CLARENCE CRAIG, J.P., on the occasion of a recent service by the Newcastle (co. Down) Life-boat, and brought the meritorious conduct of Sergeant MCNAUGHTEN and Constable McGoWAN of the Royal Irish Constabulary to the notice of the Inspector General of that force.

Voted 7s. Gd. to a man for his promptness in rescuing another man whose small open boat capsized and sunk whilst dredging near Portland on the 4th March in squally weather.

Also £1 to four men for rescuing two men whose boat was capsized near the bar at Montrose in a westerly gale on the 28th March.THURSDAY, 11th May, 1905.

Voted 61. 5s. to five men for gallantly putting off in a boat and saving the lives of five persons whose boat had capsized in a heavy surf off Magheroarty, co. Donegal, on : 24th March. On hearing of the accident the salvors hurried over a mile, and at considerable risk put off in a boat, and had it not been for their promptness the endangered man would have undoubtedly perished.

Also II. to two men for rescuing a man from a dinghy, which was being rapidly driven out to sea in a rough sea and strong breeze off Walton-on-the-Naze on the 30th inst.

Also 10s. to two men for rescuing two persons from a fishing boat which stranded off Mablethorpe in a strong easterly wind and i moderate but choppy sea, in the early morning of 5th May, NOTICE.
