Antje
NEW ROMNEY, KENT.- -A telephone message was received from the coastguard about midnight on the 23rd- 24th March stating that a vessel was making signals of distress off' Littlestone Point. The night was cold and wet, accompanied by a strong N.E. wind and rough sea, but the Life-boat James Stevens No. 11 took the water well and when clear of the breakers bore down on the vessel and pulled up under her lee. Seas were then breaking right over her, and the crew were in a very dangerous position. Directly the Lifeboat got alongside all the hands, five in number, jumped on board and the Lifeboat made for the shore. Some difficulty was experienced in landing owing to the heavy surf, but ample assistance being available it was accomplished in safety. The vessel was the schooner Antje, of Geestemunde.
