MARGATE.—While the wind was blowing from W.byN. with almost hurricane force, accompanied by a very heavy sea and terrific hail squalls, on the 27th January, the Coastguard reported flares in the Gore Channel. The crew of the Life-boat Civil Service No. 1 were called, the boat was launched at about 7.40 P.M., and reached the distressed vessel at about 2 A.M. She was the ketch Eustace, of Rochester, laden with pitch, from London for the Rhine. The Master stated that the vessel had dragged her anchor, and had touched the ground several times. At his request, the Boat stood by until after high water, when the weather improved, and he required no further assistance..
