COURTMACSHERRY, Co. CoBK.—On the evening of the 20th July a large steamer was reported in distress in Sevenheads Bay. The weather at the time was foggy, there was no wind, and the sea was smooth.
At 6 P.M., the Life-boat Farrant proceeded to the assistance of the vessel and found her to be the Texan, of and from Liverpool, bound for St. Thomas, with a general cargo, and having about two hundred persons on board. She had a large hole amidships, having been in collision with another steamer in the fog, and would have been in a critical condition if the sea had risen. The Life-boat remained by her until two steam tugs arrived from Qaeenstown and took her in tow..
