While a strong W.N.W. gale was blowing, accompanied by a heavy broken sea, on the llth May, the barque Margarethe, of Borgo, Finland, bound from Fleetwood for Canada, stranded on Barnard's Wharf. Heavy seas were breaking over her, and, being only in ballast, she was lifted and tossed about by every gust and wave. Great caution had therefore to be exercised in approaching her and rescuing her crew.
