The Hoganas

KINGSDOWNE, KENT.—A thick fog was experienced here on the 9th February, and when it cleared a little a barquentine was discerned riding at anchor in a dangerous position close to the S.W. part of the Goodwin Sands. The Life-boat Charles Hargrave was launched at 11 A.M.

in a heavy sea, and a strong W.S.W.

wind, and found the vessel to be the Hoganas, of Hoganas, bound from St.

Ubes for Helmstad, with a cargo of salt.

She had been on the Brake Sand, but floated off and steered into fresh danger.

At the request of the master, the Lifeboat men got the vessel clear of the Goodwins, and proceeded with her to Barnsgate..
