NEW BRIGHTON.—A telephone message having been received from the lightkeeperat Bidston lighthouse on the llth June, reporting that a ship was on fire in Fonnby Channel and was showing signals of distress, the steam Life-boat Duke of Northumberland proceeded to her assistance at 3.20 P.M., and found she was the ship Marechal Suchet, of London, bound from Liverpool for Calcutta with a cargo of salt. She was taken possession of by the Dock Board tenders, which were provided with pumps, the Life - boat remaining at hand until the crew were out of danger..
