CARDIGAN.— The Coastguard on the look out at Penrhyn Castle observed a light in the bay, apparently shown by a vessel in distress, while a strong gale was blowing and a very heavy sea running on the night of the 23rd March. The crew of the Life-boat Lizzie and Charles Leigh Clare were summoned, and at 11.30 the boat was launched and rescued the crew of two men from the vessel, whichproved to be the smack Mary Ann, of Milford. The Life-boat men encountered terrible weather, the night being intensely dark, and feared that their boat would have been blown on to the rocks. They landed the shipwrecked men at Aberporth and were compelled to leave the boat on the beach there, it being utterly impossible to get her back to her station until the gale had moderated..
