On the 10th February, two boys in a small boat persisted in going out of the harbour, in spite of warnings which they received from men on the pier, and drifted helplessly towards the Scroby sands on which a rough sea was breaking. Five men manned a boat, proceeded to their rescue and took their boat in tow, but springing two of their oars they became disabled and signalled for help by holding up a broken oar.
