Civil Service Life-Boat Fund

AT the annual meeting of the committee of-this fund, held on the 19th January last and presided over by Mr. CHARLES G. TURNER, C.B., Controller-General of Inland Eevenue, Mr. CHARLES DIBDIN, the Honorary Secretary, reported that there had been a considerable increase in the number of the contributors during the past year. The total was 13,137, or 986 more than in the previous year. The Committee had paid to the ROYAL NATIONAL LIFE - BOAT INSTITUTION in 1893 the sum of 1,137Z. 18s. 8d. Of this amount 953Z. 7s. 8d. was devoted to the payment of expenses connected with the maintenance of the seven Life- boat stations for the building and en- dowing of the boats of which the fund had already found the means. The balance of 184Z. 11s. went to recoup the Institution the money paid during the year in rewarding the crews of the Civil Service boats for services. The seven Life-boats in question have been instru- mental in saving 216 lives and several vessels.
