Mary and Maria
HARWICH.—The Life-boat Springwell was launched at 4.30 P.M. on the 2nd March, and proceeded, in tow of the steam-tng Harwich, to the assistance of the schooner Mary and Maria, of and for Hull from London, laden with oil-cake, which had shown signals of distress whilst lying at anchor in Mill Bay, off Dovercourt, during a N.E. wind, stormy weather, and a heavy sea. On reaching her it was found that she was bumping heavily; six of the Life-boat men therefore boarded her, attached the tag's hawser to her, slipped both her anchors and chains, and towed her to Harwich, safely mooring her alongside the pier.
She had a crew of three men..
