Golden Island

NORTH DEAL.—In response to the signals fired by the light-ships, and a vessel burning large flares on the Goodwin Sands, the Mary Somerville Life-boat was launched at about 2.30 A.M. on the 15th May, during a N.N.E. wind and a heavy sea. The vessel in distress proved to be the three-masted schooner Golden Island, of Fleetwood, bound from Antwerp toLiverpool with glass-sand, and carrying a crew of seven men, all of whom were taken into the Life-boat and safely landed.

The schooner became a total wreck..
