Vanguard
NORTH SUNDERLAND.—The steam trawler Vanguard, of Sunderland, was seen near the outer Fame Island making signals of distress, during squally weather, at about 2 P.M. on the 1st April. As the sea was too heavy for ordinary boats to put off, the Joseph Anstice Life-boat was launched, pulled out to the vessel, which was about five miles distant, and found her in a dangerous position, her engines having broken down. She was taken in tow by the Life-boat, and was brought about a mile towards the Fairway, when a steamtug arrived and took her in tow».
